My season started with high hopes on harvesting a deer I call Throat Patch. If you watched the show last year then you have seen video of me shooting under him in late season 2013. The deer has my number! He was a six year old deer in 2014 and I have a lot of history with him. I spent most of my Minnesota season chasing him but never had an opportunity to draw my bow on him. I did get several trail camera pictures of the buck and found his sheds, and yes of course will be chasing him this season.
As far as the rest of the season, I once again traveled to Illinois in early November for a week to hunt with my good friend Adam Crumrin. Due to hot weather and a spotty rut, I was not able to harvest one of the bucks we had been targeting, but I did get to spend time with my favorite family!
After returning from Illinois my buddy Kris Seymour said that it was on in Kansas, so we loaded up and made the 7 hour drive. Man was he right. We saw deer every day and had several opportunities at good mature bucks, but just was not meant to be for me. Went home with a lot of great memories but no antlers for the taxidermist or meat for the freezer!
Although I did not harvest one mature buck last season, I still see my season as a success because I had a opportunity to pass a lot of good deer that some maybe would not have. I had a chance to spend time in my favorite hunting states with some of my favorite people. Thanks for all the memories in 2014.
