I had really high expectations going into the 2015 hunting season. I had tags for Wyoming, Canada, and Kansas. I was also planning on taking my son on his first deer hunt with a crossbow. I was looking forward to laying down some video in Kansas with clients as well. On top of all that I was still teaching, guiding, and starting a new Real Estate company with my brother, Scott Seymour and friend Ryan Lehmkuhl named BeOutdoors Real Estate LLC. [Read more…]
Our season this year was going to focus on Whitetail as in the past we have done both whitetail and Adventure hunts. We started the year in Edmonton for Whitetail and had a great hunt; taking a big mature velvet 8 point. The buck scores a little under 160 and weighed over 300 pounds – the largest bodied whitetail I have ever taken. From Canada we went to Illinois and saw a ton of young bucks but just never could get on something mature that we really wanted to take. [Read more…]
I had a great 2015 season, the fourth day in I shot a buck I nicknamed razor that I had been hunting for two years. That opened up a lot more time for running the camera for my kids. I really enjoyed spending time in the stand with my two daughters and I was able to film my camera man kill a good buck in October. Adam Hays came up and hunted with me in November and I spent a week filming him too.
When late season came around I spent every weekend filming my oldest daughter, we saw a lot of good deer but just could not close the deal . My daughters didn’t end up filling their tags but what a joy it is spending time in the woods, watching your kids enjoy hunting as much as I do.
My season started off with me heading north to Minnesota to hunt with Randy. He had been getting Covert pictures of two really nice 10 pointers on one of his farms all summer. We ended up having to observe the first day, but we finally got the right wind and went and and killed the heavy 10 the first evening we set up on him.
2015 was one of my better seasons of opportunity. I had a particular 7 year old monarch we referred to as DTP (double throat patch) in MN that I had my mind set on. I had several great bucks that I had passed with the bow but was able to get with camera waiting for the one chance at DTP. My annual trek to Illinois turned out to be a very successful but short trip, as Adam Crumrin put me on a good buck on the first morning of the hunt and I was able to put a good shot on a great 5 year old buck. Once again getting to spend time with my favorite family. I headed back to MN where I had several more encounters with good young deer but no opportunities at what I was looking for. Over all I real enjoyed the season and time spent doing what I love.
